I found white saturation to be just a tad high, with the second whitest shade looking the same as reference white, but gamma hit the 2.2 target admirably and there’s no visible banding in gradients.
And, while IPS panels are often known for “glowing” around the edges, the 49WL95C-W had an extremely even backlight, even in the dark, so credit where credit is due. Reference black isn’t exactly dark on this monitor, though, thanks to its IPS display-blacks just aren’t as deep as you would see on a VA panel, but you do get fantastic color reproduction and wide viewing angles. Lagom’s LCD test patterns showed that its black levels were well calibrated, with the darkest shades of grey were just barely distinguishable from reference black. That’s not the worst thing in the world, but at a price this high, there are more feature-filled displays for your money. You do get the usual brightness, contrast, and color settings along with a “Response Time” feature that overdrives the pixels for less ghosting-plus HDR10 for a decent, but unexceptional HDR picture in games and movies-but otherwise, you won’t find a lot of gaming-specific features here. The IPS panel provides excellent picture quality with great color accuracy, but with a refresh rate of only 60Hz and no FreeSync, it’s clear this isn’t really intended to be a gaming monitor. It’s not a feature everyone will need, but if you have multiple computers at your desk, it can be quite handy on such a big monitor. You’ll also find a headphone jack and what LG calls a “Dual Controller” KVM switch, which lets you hook two PCs up to the monitor and view each one side-by-side, moving your mouse and sharing files between them. “Rear I/O is a varied, offering one DisplayPort, two HDMI ports, and a USB type-C port that can carry a DisplayPort signal or charge your laptop.
