The Mehras have a daughter Ayesha Mehra (Priyanka Chopra), who is not just the 'inheritor' of Mehra's business acumen, but also has become a successful entrepreneur in her own right – she even gets an acknowledgement by 'Forbes' magazine. Despite having a million differences with each other, they pretend to the world that they are the 'best couple', only because their whole world revolves around the worry of 'log kya kahengey'. The film starts off with the introduction of the dysfunctional family of the Mehras which consists of Kamal Mehra (Anil Kapoor) who is a quite a 'successful' self made businessman whose wife Neelam Mehra (Shefali Shah) loves to spout wicked, sarcastic and tongue-in-cheek one-liners.
Story Dil Dhadakne Do tells the story of a dysfunctional Punjabi family who invite their family & friends on a cruise trip to celebrate the parents 30th wedding anniversary.
